Our HeritageOur Church History
The First United Methodist Church of Cedar Hill was founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest Methodist Churches in North Texas. In 1856 a tornado blew away the church and most of Cedar Hill and in 1883 the church bought property at the current location. In 1900, 3 more lots were purchased and the current sanctuary was constructed. The original four foot bell still summons worshippers on Sunday morning. In 1980 the Family Life Center (FLC) was constructed and serves as the center of many church and community activities. In 1996 Wesley Hall was completed. Nursery facilities and children's classrooms are located here as well as the church administrative offices. In 1997, the church completed purchase of all property to Beltline road between Roberts and Potter streets. This provides the land for future growth. In 1998 the Historic Sanctuary was updated with refinished pews and new carpeting, and the back part of the building was remodeled and restored with period style furnishings. It has a Bride's parlor with bathroom and complete kitchen facilities. In addition to weddings, it is used for showers, receptions, and Bible study. In 2004 a New Sanctuary was constructed and serves as the center of our worship services including the 11 AM worship Service. |
