Prison Restoration Project Is a Go!

After strenuous negotiations with Customs and prison officials, the Prison Restoration Project can officially begin. 150 second-hand wheelchairs are due to arrive in Bangalore in late June, and trainer, Dana Croxton, will be working at the prison to train inmates on basic wheelchair restoration. Not only is this an exciting development for proVISION ASIA and Joni and Friends, but this is a project unlike any other in India. We hope someday Bangalore will be the main wheelchair distribution point for Asia. Join us in celebrating the kick-off of this project!

Total Access

The Total Access Project is well on its way to the arrival of the team in September. We are now working to collect donations of materials and enlist a force of local volunteers to work on the project. We're especially excited about making a local park accessible for families with disabled kids! What a great opportunity to make a difference in the community!

Joni and Friends is piloting the Total Access project in both India and Ghana. We hope for great success on both projects so this can expand to other developing nations!

Successes and Upcoming Events

P.J. and Lizzy returned from London with new two-year visas, enabling them to stay with pA until 2008!

We received a grant for 7 educational scholarships for needy disabled children from CFD! This was the first grant we've received from CFD so we hope for even more good things next year.

pA was awarded a grant for the purchase of 70 new pairs of crutches and 10 new walkers from Bangalore's Overseas Women's Club. This will meet a huge need for our disabled clients!

On June 27, we will again host a Helen Keller Day celebration. This year, we're expanding our event's focus to include special awards for the hearing impaired community as well as the blind. We hope to be able to give even more educational scholarships, special aids, and services to these extraordinary people through the 2006 celebration.

The Kingery's are moving on June 5th to their new home in sunny California. How exciting for them to finally be all together again! Keep them in your thoughts during this busy time.

Thank you!

Again, we want to say "Thanks" for your incredible support of proVISION ASIA's work among the disabled. Lives are being radically changed because you stand with us in saying they are significant. On behalf of those we serve, thank you!

proVISION ASIA welcomes summer interns Heather Herchapp, returning for a second time, and Rachel Vaughan, who will be working with us in June and July!
